Partners In ParanormYA... Call Out The Neighbors, It's A FEUD!

Hey, gang! I've got a fantastic post lined up for you today featuring the characters from two new, not-to-be-missed book releases in paranormal YA.

Regulars on my blog will be very acquainted with Gwen Gardner and Angela Brown as I've featured their shenanigans on the Open Vein before. But if you aren't familiar, you should know these two authors are hilarious and talented to boot.

So sit back and enjoy a little "ParanomYA Feud" with the characters of A Guilty Ghost Surprised and They Fall Down.

*cue the Family Feud intro music*

Welcome to today’s True/False edition of ParanormYA Feud!
I’m your special host, Wayne Brady of Let’s Make a Deal, NOT to be confused with a certain They All Fall Down character - looking at you, Q – who likes to make deals to sell your soul to the devil.
*cue infamous Wayne Brady smile, infectious laughter and audience applause while Q nods and blows kisses all around*
Let’s move on to our contestants. We have Team AGGS, A Guilty Ghost Surprised, and Team TAFD, They All Fall Down. Abby and Indigo, come on up for the first question.
*cue audience applause*
Wayne: Look at this. We’ve got ourselves a girl in red cloak and another in red face. It’s okay, Indigo, no need to worry. It’s just a game.
Abby: Tell that to Q.
Wayne: Um, uh…well now, let’s all do our best to uh, survive, with our, uh, souls intact. First question: The Blind Badger is a pub.
Indigo *smacks the buzzer*: True?
*Her team calls out cheers of “Good answer!”*
Wayne: You are…correct! Point for Team AGGS. Next up, we have Samaya for Team TAFD and Franny for Team AGGS.
*cue audience applause and several loud whistles for Samaya’s wardrobe…or rather, how much is lacking since her chest is hardly hidden by her barely-there-piece-of-fabric-for-a-shirt*
Wayne *clears his throat*:  Okay. Here’s the question ladies, ghost, uh, ma’am, uh, never mind: The Soul Collector is a warm, caring being to be worshipped.
Samaya *smacks the buzzer*: Of course that’s true.
Wayne: I’m sorry, but that is incorrect.
Samaya: It’s what!?!
*The lights click off. The audience gasps.*
Wayne:  No worries everyone. Just a technical difficulty. We’ll be right back. Wait, who is touching my butt?
You never know what fun can be had with the cast of A Guilty Ghost Surprised and They All Fall Down. Get your copy of the stories today to find out who YOU think copped a feel on our poor unsuspecting show host.

About A Guilty Ghost Surprised: Indigo Eady and gang are back with a feather and a Chance setting off another twisting-turning investigation to bring a cold case, and loved ones, closure at last.

About They All Fall Down: Free of their duties as Cleanser and Harvestor, Abby and Basil try to move on with their lives. But some secrets remain. And what is done in the dark won’t be good when it comes to light.

Frailties Of The Bond

Gang! Super excited to share this fantastic new release from our blogging/writing sister-at-arms, Angela Brown.

AB is legit, and so is this cover:

The dirty on Frailties...

NEO – Network of Extraordinaires and Otherworldlies:

Those who answer the call from NEO play their part in maintaining balance in our ever-changing times. With power-hungry malcontents, jealous gods, and even those with misguided good intentions, the fate of our world has oft been held in the hands of unsung heroes such as those that are members of NEO.

But before NEO, these heroes and heroines had lives, loves, issues and interests that didn’t involve saving mankind.

In Frailties of the Bond, it only takes one bite to change a life…

After a hiking trip gone wrong, sixteen-year-old Luca should have been dead. Since then, he’s drifted from one school day to the next, annoyed by the looks of suspicion. When a vampire attack claimed his mother and forced his first shift into animal form, Luca set out for Texas, vengeance bound, only to discover so much more when Aimee crossed his path.

Flesh-born of vampire parents sixteen years ago, Aimee shouldn’t exist. Magic, though, made dreams come true for an undead couple desperate for a child all their own. But this magic came with a price, a cost Aimee discovered after one forbidden bite.

An Excerpt:

“That’s not the way to really drink, beautiful.” He pulled down his collar, tilted his neck and exposed his jugular to me. The vein throbbed to the steady beat of his heart. Thump-thump. Thump-thump. Thump-thump.

Bloodlust slapped me like a cornered beast. Ignored for far too long.

I sprang at Trevor, my bared lips a hair’s breadth from his neck, the pulse teasing and inviting. My lips trembled. They grazed his smooth skin. The very idea of sucking his blood sent fire coursing from my core, splintering throughout my body. My fangs drew forth.

I closed my eyes, resisting long enough to stutter out a squeaky breath.

“Do it,” he rasped.

I sank in my fangs. Hot blood splashed against the roof of my mouth and soaked my tongue. Like the B-shop anty pouches, I sucked it down my throat like melted chocolate. I suctioned my lips to keep every delicious drop within the circle surrounding my puncture marks.

Quivers wracked my body. I dropped my Bloody Joey and held to Trevor for dear life.

He gasped, then started moaning. But not from pain. No. Something else was going on with Trevor. My heartbeat quickened and I felt…ALIVE. Complete bliss crested like a crescendo where his heart and mine beat as one. This was the wonderful thing my parents kept from me my whole life. For one heartbeat, I despised my parents for keeping me from experiencing such a high. When I opened my eyes, the moment crashed.

The dirty on AB...

Born and raised in Little Rock, AR, Angela now calls Central Texas home.

Reading and writing have been lifelong passions. It was around the time she gave birth to her forever-love, nicknamed Chipmunk, that she really took writing seriously. After all, how could she teach her child to follow her dreams if she hadn't tried herself?

As a YA fantasy/sci-fi reader and author, she favors the magical, mysterious, the darker side of life...even harbors a secret fright for things that go bump in the night.

NEVERLOVE is a special project spawned from a blog-challenge-turned-blog-opera, the Abby and Basil affair. It is the first in the Shadow Jumpers series.

FRAILTIES OF THE BOND is the first in a series of novellas and short stories introducing heroes and heroines of the secret organization, NEO – Network of Extraordinaires and Otherwordlies.

Congrats AB! Have a feeling this one is going to be huge!

If you leave a comment on this post to wish Angela luck, I'll enter you for a chance to win a free eCopy of Frailties.

Also, want to wish everyone a happy Easter and a great weekend, too. :)

Anything You Can Do ... Guest Post

Hey gang! Today I've got a wonderful guest-post, with LOADS of awesome giveaway stuff. (Details at the bottom of the post.)
The guests are Gwen Gardner, author of Givin' Up The Ghost:

Running, writing and reading are my favorite things.

I am also a dreamer.

Have you ever told yourself that "someday" I'm going to travel or write or whatever it is that you are passionate about but can't do right now for whatever reason? You can go for years and years and keep telling yourself that "someday" you'll do it. Too often "someday" never comes. But mine did. I am a former Administrative Manager and Vice President of a successful swimming pool plastering company - until I woke up one day and realized that my "someday" had arrived. I quit my job, moved to the mountains and began to write. Crazy, I know. But even crazier? Is when you get to the end of your life and realize that your "someday" is too late. Life is much too short for that! So the adventure has begun.

And Angela Brown, author of Neverlove:

Born and raised in Little Rock, AR, Angela now calls Central Texas home. She's a lover of Wild Cherry Pepsi and chocolate/chocolate covered delicious-ness. Steampunk, fantasy and paranormal to contemporary - mostly young adult - fill her growing library of books. Mother to a rambunctious darling girl aptly nicknamed Chipmunk, life stays busy. Her favorite quote keeps her moving: "You may never know what results come of your action, but if you do nothing there will be no result." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

I'm certain you've seen both ladies (and books) around the blog-world of late, so you know they're a class act (and just dang fun). The post is in the form of a character interview--very funny stuff, btw. So please welcome Gwen and Angela, as well as the ladies of Neverlove and Givin' Up The Ghost!

E.J.: Today at The Open Vein, I’m hosting the casts of both Neverlove and Givin’ Up The Ghost, so I thought we’d have a bit of fun. You know, a bit of friendly competition. Just to see what the women of these two novels can do, you understand.

THE LINE-UP

Stage left, the cast of Givin’ Up The Ghost

Indigo Eady - Long black braid, blue eyes, wearing jeans and sweatshirt. Psychic, ghost whisperer, psychometry reader.

Franny - Black hair in an up-do, voluminous scarlet skirts, tiny waist, and overflowing bosom. Ghost, former 19th century madam, speaks to the living.

Stage right, the cast of Neverlove

Abby Bishop – Dark brown hair, hazel eyes in white chocolate mocha skin, full lips, wearing a red hooded cloak. Cleanser and agent of heaven, soul rescuer.

Pam - Blonde hair, blue eyes, skin tight black leather from head to toe. Harvestor and agent of hell, consumes soul energy.

*****
*Theme song plays in the background*
Anything you can do, I can do better,
I can do anything better than you.”

*Audience applause*

E.J.: *Shuffles index cards* First up is Indigo versus Pam. Indigo, what can you do better than Pam?

*Indigo and Pam meet center stage*

Indigo:  Well EJ, I thought I’d show you a bit of psychometry. If Pam will just give me her hand...

Pam:  You’d better make this good, psycho-girl...

Indigo: Psychometry! I read energy. There’s no need to be mean, Pam.

Pam: Whatever.

*Pam reluctantly holds out her right hand, and Indigo takes it.*

Indigo: *A film rolls through her head and is projected onto a theater-sized overhead screen*

Pam’s lips are locked onto a man’s as a woman stands shocked nearby. Pam releases the man and he falls, soulless, to the ground.

*The audience boos and hisses*

*Indigo tries to pull her hand back to break the connection, but Pam holds tight and grins. Indigo’s face begins to distort*

Franny: *whooshes to enter stage*
Oh no you DON’T devil-girl!

*a power surge erupts from Franny’s fingertips, sending Pam sprawling backwards.*

You’ll not suck the soul out of my girl.

Pam: No? Well how about you, Miss Madam. Seems to me you sold your soul to the devil a long time ago.

Abby: *Runs to center stage. Extensions shoot from her arms, silver pistols protruding from each hand*

All right, Pam. That’s enough. This was supposed to be a demonstration, not an opportunity for you to suck souls.

Pam: *a sly glance* Well, I couldn’t let her show my secrets to the world, could I? And put those pistols away. Like you said, it’s just a demonstration. I’m sorry you didn’t like it.

E.J.: *laughs* Ladies, ladies. I’m sure the Pretty Pamela meant no harm...

Pam: No indeed, E.J. *sidles up next to him and brings her lips close to his*

E.J.: *turns pale* Well this has been a very interesting demonstration, yes indeed. Let’s call it a success and bring this show to a close. *dashes backstage muttering, Never Again.*

Now where do you suppose EJ ran off to?

Awesome Covers? I Got 'Em!

Mystery and mayhem teamed with heartache and overcoming. Follow PIP here.
It's that time folks, the moment Gwen and I have been so excited for.  Well, one of the moments.  This Indie publishing adventure has been one thrilling moment after another.  So here they are, our covers for GIVIN' UP THE GHOST and NEVERLOVE by Gwen Gardner and Angela Brown, respectively.

Corona Zschusschen
Friend or Foe?

Murder victim Bart Bagley is not content to merely roll over in his grave. He wants his murderer caught and he wants teenage ghost whisperer, Indigo Eady, to help him.

It becomes obvious that Bart’s temper lead to more than one disagreement, but is it enough to want him dead? With nothing but a cold trail and a hot list of “friendly” suspects, Indigo and her friends race to find the killer before they become the next victims.

Indigo Eady is not clumsy. At least, that’s what she keeps telling everyone. Can she help that the overactive spirit community of Sabrina Shores causes her psychic abilities to short-circuit? It’s unfortunate that her cute new friend Badger is often on the receiving end of her mishaps. At times, she is positively hazardous to his health. Even so, sparks start to fly in more than one direction...

Heather McCorckle of CP Designs

For seventeen-year-old Abigail, one rash decision leads to an unexpected chance for redemption. At V'Salicus Academy, a unique institute where she trains to become an agent of heaven, she struggles with the pain of her past, the changes of the present and accepts a loveless future until her path – and heart – crosses with Basil’s.

Basil's off-chance slip of the tongue binds him to a life of servitude to the Devourer, the master of hell. His existence has no upside until a chance meeting with Abigail brings new perspective.

Keeping the truth of their present lives from each other brings disaster when secrets are brought to light and the life of Abigail’s mentor is put on the line.

Can Abigail and Basil save her mentor and salvage their love amid the chaos? Or will they lose it all, destined forever to NEVERLOVE?

First, let me just say that I adore the covers, but not nearly as much as I do Angela and Gwen. They are seriously dedicated bloggers, and talented writers to boot. Wishing them a TON of success going forward. They've earned it.

Second, tomorrow I'll be announcing the winners of my cover reveal contest. Stay tuned! :-)
